Water Water sources available to Currituck mainland residents are private wells and the Currituck County Water System. The Mainland Water System is self-supporting with main water lines now complete to Point Harbor. Distribution lines in lower Currituck County will be complete in 2005. Total treatment and storage capacity is one million gallons per day. Tap fees start at $3,40 to $4,100 depending on how much work is required. Renters must fill out an application and are required to pay a $100 deposit. The Currituck Outer Banks water service comes from wells or private water facilities. Tap fees are $4,150 in Corolla with the exception of $2,450 in Ocean Sands (water and sewer) and $1,700 in the Villages of Ocean Hill (water and sewer). The county is in the process of developing the Southern Outer Banks Water System, which would provide water to many homes currently dependent on wells and an emergency water supply for others. |
